Panduit, a leading manufacturer of wiring communication products,
has partnered with Cisco to build a LEED Gold Certified headquarters.
Panduit used Cisco’s Connected Real Estate and Green Practice methods
to construct a building which integrates sustainability throughout its
structure and systems. By using a larger amount of natural light,
re-using rain water captured from the roof, and installing systems to
measure and control the amount of energy consumed, Panduit saved 75
cents per square foot in its headquarters’ construction and operation.
The Wharton School has teamed up with the Women’s World Banking
Center for Microfinance Leadership to plan the future of the
microfinance industry. At a meeting earlier this month, 22 microfinance
leaders from 14 countries met to discuss issues facing the industry,
such as regulation, industry standards, and a shift from
not-for-profit, government funding to profit-generating private
investment. Private investment in microfinance in 2008 totaled $14.8
billion dollars. Microfinance has been especially important in
directing start-up funding to women-owned and operated enterprises.
