CSR Minute: Disney's Volunteer Program

The Disney Company is sponsoring a volunteer program, “Give a Day, Get a Disney Day.” Each person who signs up to confirm a specific date and time to volunteer at a participating organization will receive a one-day, one-theme park ticket to either Disneyland or Walt Disney World, free. You must be at least 18 to sign up, but children as young as 6 may participate in the program. Disney’s goal is to inspire one million people to volunteer a day of service.

Fundraising in the top thirty “thons”—people running, walking, or cycling to raise money for a good cause—generated more than $1.62 billion dollars for charity last year, according to The Run Walk Ride Fundraising Council. The council’s fourth annual “Run Walk Ride Thirty” study reports that the revenue from the top thirty “thon” programs fell by 7.6  percent, the first overall decrease in revenue recorded by the Council. Twenty of the top thirty programs experienced lower revenue in 2009, although nearly 11.3 million people participated in their programs. Projections for 2010 are for “thon” revenues to remain flat or slightly higher.
