City vs Automobile : enemies engage

In Paris, Barcelona and Los Angeles local authorities are trying to encourage citizens to abandon their cars for cleaner modes of travel. But opposition is great. Some people just love their automobiles and don't want anything to obstruct their route. In Paris, a redevelopment project targeting the Place de la République aims to give more room to cyclists and pedestrians. But drivers oppose a draft law that aims to reduce car traffic by nearly 15%. In Barcelona, the redevelopment of the city’s main artery is also criticized. Local officials hope to cut traffic by about 80%, by extending the streetcar and expanded pedestrian areas. Approximately, 79% of Barcelona residents voted against this redevelopment. In Los Angeles, where public transportation is nonexistent, the local government is promoting carpooling. Cars carrying two or more passengers can use the fast lane that is strictly reserved for carpooling. However, crafty drivers have found interesting ways around this law. Watch to find out more.
