Xinran, a columnist for the Guardian Newspaper and author of The Good Women of China and Sky Burial founded a charity in 2004 called The Mothers’ Bridge of Love (MBL). In August of 2004 MBL received its United Kingdom charity registration number (1105543). We are reaching out to Chinesechildren in all corners of the world: those who have been raised abroad, those who have been adopted by Western families, and those living in China, often in destitute conditions. MBL is also striving to introduce an authentic China to the West as well as disseminate information about adopted Chinese children’s lives and the lives of overseas Chinese in the West to people in China. By creating a bridge of understanding between China and the West and between adoptive culture and birth culture, MBL ultimately wants to help bridge the huge poverty gap, which still exists in many parts of China.
