Spring 2009: We’re committed to making our products 100% sustainable
At Simple® Shoes we believe how we make our shoes is just as important as WHY we make them. Our Spring 2009 collection demonstrates the next step to our commitment to making our products 100% sustainable. Our footwear and bag collections prove thateco-friendly products can be comfyaffordableand look pretty sweet.
Glue-Free Assembly – For the Spring 2009 seasonwe are introducing Glue-FreeAssembly to several styles in our Green Toe™ collection. We started with the idea ofmaking our shoes completely without gluebut quickly realized that the backings in thecomponent building process still needed a small amount or they would fall apart.Neverthelessby using sewing machines instead of extra glue to assemble the shoecomponentsour new Glue-Free Assembly reduces the amount of glue used to less than5mL (think about the size of a thimble compared to the two shot glasses of glue that areusually required). The styles in this collection also have super-comfy foot beds madefrom reclaimed scrap carpet paddingas well as outsoles made from a blend of recycledcar tire and natural latex.
Silk is a beautiful natural protein fiber made from the drool of a little worm called thebombyx mori (or silk worm to the average Joe). We love it because it keeps your feetcool when it’s warmwarm when it’s cooland it’s really pretty! Silk will be featured incolorful solidsstripes and gingham prints on styles ranging from gladiator sandals andslidesto sporty sneakers.
Unbleached Hemp is just as it sounds – hemp literally taken off the plantwashed, and woven into some men’s styles such as the Carload and ecoS. This results in thereduced use of chemicals and dyes in our shoeswhich helps to make the world ahappier and healthier place. We also like hemp for spring because it is softsuperbreathablelooks greatand is mega-strong too!
Joe Curren Collaboration - We launched our first collaboration with surfer Joe Currenin 2007 with the “Santa Barbara” versions of the SatireSnotire and Retire ecoSNEAKS.For the Spring 2009 seasonSimple is excited to introduce two new styles and prints tothis collection. The prints have been taken during Joe’s travels around the world and areoffered on the Careen for dudesand the Cartwheel for the ladies. Both styles areprinted on 100% certified organic cotton and feature recycled car tire outsoles.
The Ryde was founded in 2002 with the goal of creating uniqueart driven and surfinspiredclothing that makes you smile. Simple will be teaming up with our friends atThe Ryde for a new colorful print for the Satire and Snotire ecoSNEAKS shoe stylesaswell as a brand new t-shirt offering.
