![]() |
This Specialty Channel brings together accounts of Corporate Social Responsibility, including environmental, fair labour and community support initiatives, put in place by the world's leading corporations. We hope that these initiatives will inspire other businesses and institutions to do likewise. Together, we can make Corporate Social Responsibility a default rather than a buzzword! |
Synopsis: The 15th Quebec edition of the CIBC Run for the Cure took place October 2nd 2011 in three cities. The event was held simultaneously in Montreal, Sherbrooke and Quebec City. Almost 30,000 people participated in helping to raise funds for the Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation. Van Houtte has been committed in the fight against breast cancer and offers its services, such as well-deserved coffee breaks at fund raising events like this one. This year more than 18,000 cups of Van Houtte coffee were distributed to participants of Run for the Cure across Canada. Nathalie Boudreau, director of the business development at the Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation described the partnership with Van Houtte as a "great collaboration". For the past two years, Van Houtte has pledged to donate $50,000 per year to the Foundation in the hopes of helping to find a cure for cancer.

Chris Jarvis thinks that companies need to rethink the term "stakeholders". He says that people who are "born connectors" are those that can successfully navigate social networks by transmitting information and connecting people in order to start an online dialogue. According to Jarvis, these individuals should be considered the true "influencers".

Synopsis: Tremblant Forum CSR Series - Cristelle Basmaji, VP Communications, Jacob.
Basmaji says that Jacob is a very consumer-centric company and considers all consumers potential brand ambassadors. For this reason, Jacob gives its consumers an abundance of information regarding its products, campaigns, and designs. With more and more consumers turning to social media, there is a greater expectation for transparency.
She says that while Jacob had always invested the bulk of their efforts in making each Jacob store the main point of communication (through beautiful images, appealing store set-ups, customer service etc), the company soon realized that this wasn't enough.
Jacob believes that new media tools are key when speaking to people outside the store environment.
