Obama launched a $2.4 billion program to boost development of plug-in electric vehicles in the U.S
President Barack Obama on Thursday launched a $2.4 billion program to boost development of plug-in electric vehicles in the U.S., including grants to finance domestic production of auto batteries.
He also mentioned his goal to see 1 million plug-in cars on US roads by 2015.
Speaking at an electric vehicle development facility in California, Obama said the $2 billion grant program:
"will spark the manufacturing of the batteries and parts that run these cars, build or upgrade the factories that will produce them, and in the process, create thousands of jobs right here in America."

There are already over 260 MILLION automobiles congesting our roads, streets and neighborhoods spewing out their toxins, making intolerable NOISE levels, and causing enormous health problems and accumulating exorbitant social costs.
Americans kill themselves and each other 47,500 times a year. The injuries is a staggering figure, something around 3500 per day.
If all American drivers cut their driving in half for 1 year, the savings would be about $3.5 TRILLION .
So, this plan is a drop in the bucket. And the goal is far too late and far too long in years and far too short in numbers of autos.
Unregulated use of automobiles for decades is a big issue.
Where has the Health Department been on this?
Its not just an environmental problem.

Always a good thing to be less reliant on gas. Obama is smart. It takes money to go green, but it’s the responsible thing to do.
