15.15 — Mr Wanchen has presented a bronze statue of the Medicine Buddha to Ms Menchu in recognition of her healing efforts the world over.

15.18 — Ms Menchu on Tibet: “If we don’t have dignity, our freedom is kidnapped.”

15.43 — Hailing technology as a “holy heritage of humanity”, Ms Menchu has made the call for all to benefit from the advancements that it offers.

16.51 —Our guest has given a press conference to attending members of the Spanish press corps, and has now been escorted by Paul Allard down the impressive grand stairs here at the Casa Convalescència.

In the course of her address she detailed the responsibility of those who would use new technologies to uplift cultural minorities and others to whom basic human rights are often denied.  She took questions from the audience in stride, including a final difficult one from a visiting Mexican gentlemen.  Speaking of the tensions which exist between ethnic minorities in Mexico, the gentleman related his difficulty in offering help to indigenous communities which distrusted him on the basis of his physical difference from them.

One of my colleagues, a Spanish blogger, has compiled a collection of quotes from Ms Menchu’s address.  I am seeking some help with the translation and will post them shortly.

Thanks for your thoughts Jamie.  I think that the translations we are now making will allow for better English quotation than the live one from which I could take notes.  The press conference was held in Spanish with only minimal translation and I was thus, unfortunately, not privy to much of the discourse with other journalists.
